OTHER PROFILES

Space 1999's Eagle has a number of serious design flaws, so I came up with my own second generation follow on design.
1. Wheels reduce heavy equipment requirements for relocating disabled vessels.
2. Separate lift and thrust engines are deadweight. The single drive engine is lighter, and the cargo pods don't need engines or feet.
3. The ladder frame is structurally unsound, and docking collisions when slotting a pod between them are inevitable. Previously exposed systems are now inside to protect them and simplify maintenance. Interchangeable hull panels simplify construction and repair. The strength of the pressure vessels made the frames redundant which just added weight.
4. Much of the command module was wasted space, and visibility was severely restricted, while a windscreen perpendicular to the line of motion would allow space debris to penetrate the bridge.
